BOSTON -- Lego Education, makers of the Mindstorms entertainment systems, is currently offering the robotic toys for sale at this yearis MacWorld Expo in Boston, Massachusetts. The kits, which connect to the Mac via a USB interface and are driven by Mac OS X-native software, allow users to build their own miniature robots via mechanical bricks, optical sensors, touch sensors and an infrared tower which sends signals to the robot. An optional Mindstorms USB camera includes a built-in microphone, 17 feet of cable and can be used as a video, still or web camera.
This is Robot Controller, an application for controlling and testing Lego Mindstorms robots using the RCX with firmware version 2. It is the ideal companion to Dave Baum's NQC. These days I've been coming across a lot of people who've purchased used MINDSTORMS sets from the RCX era, only to find they didn't come with a CD. And in order to use the set, assuming that using an alternate programming language is not an option, the buyer can either Buy a CD off Bricklink, or find a place to download the software.
The Mindstorms kits are divided into separate packages and include the following components:
